Philip Whiteley

Philip Whiteley

I have been a professional writer since 1988, initially as a business journalist, and latterly as author and ghostwriter, although I continue to pen articles and blogs.

Since 1997 most of my non-fiction writing has focused on business management. I’ve written or co-authored nine non-fiction works under my own name with major publishers, with tens of thousands of sales and several translations, and the book Meet the New Boss was shortlisted for the Management Book of the Year Award in 2011. My journalism experience is extensive and international. Between 2000 and 2004 I penned a weekly column on executive pay for The Times. My article Accounting that Counts, co-authored with Dr Jules Goddard of the London Business School, was shortlisted for the Management Article of the Year Award 2016, run by the Chartered Management Institute.

I’ve also written two novels under the fiction byline PJ Whiteley, both published by Urbane Publications. They are contemporary novels, based on relationships and with a sporting theme. Close of Play was shortlisted for the People’s Book Prize Summer 2015. A review in the Church Times said: ‘Close of Play is well written, and above all well observed’. The second novel, Marching on Together, was published in February 2017 and has received very positive feedback.

I take commissions for editing or ghostwriting books, mostly on the subject of business management, but occasionally in other genres of non-fiction. I have extensive international experience, and I’m a Spanish speaker, which helps me to be sensitive when working with writers for whom English is a second language.

Selected titles where I contributed as ghostwriter or developmental editor are:

  • The Management Shift, Professor Vlatka Hlupic, Palgrave Macmillan 2014.
  • Governance in Family Enterprises, Denise Kenyon-Rouvinez et al, Palgrave Macmillan 2014.
  • Aerotoxic Syndrome: Aviation’s Darkest Secret, John Hoyte, Pilot Press 2014
  • Family Capitalism: Best Practices in Ownership & Leadership, edited by Gry Osnes, Routledge 2016.

Genres
Business management, investigative non-fIction, professional memoirs, sport
